Native American Log Cabin
This Native American log cabin was built in the late 1800s in a native community on Burt Lake. It was one of three cabins that remained following the historic “burnout” of the other homes in the settlement in October of 1900.
This action followed a lengthy and complicated legal dispute over the payment of property taxes. The removal of the native settlement occurred before the matter could be settled in the courts.
The Native American Log Cabin was purchased and removed from its original location in 1923. It was donated to the History Center and restored in 1976.
